Sopwell Nunnery Green Space

This green space, in Cottonmill Lane, contains the ruins of Sir Richard Lee's Tudor mansion on the site of the former Sopwell nunnery.

The site is owned by St Albans District Council, and managed in partnership with the Countryside Management Service, the Sopwell Residents Association, and the Cottonmill Nunnery Allotment Association.

It has had Green Flag Award status since 2007.

The site is located in the Ver Valley. With the beautiful walk along the river Ver - an important and unique chalk stream - and the spring and summer flower meadows, it is a perfect spot for a relaxing walk or picnic.
