AGM 2010

Our AGM  took place in the Marlborough Pavilion on Tuesday 8th June 2010, starting at 8pm.

After the usual AGM business, including a presentation of the Annual Report with an overview of the year's many activities, by Peter Segers, our secretary, we had Peter Bloomfield of Transition St Albans as our main speaker.

Peter Bloomfield is Educational Consultant for Sustainibility and Visiting Lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire and he spoke to us about Transition St Albans.

Transition St Albans is an open and thriving group of community members exploring how we can act together locally, to prepare our city for the challenges ahead, building resilience and happiness, and the kind of community that we would all want to be part of.

In the coming decades, climate change and dwindling supplies of oil and gas will require us to radically re-think our lifestyles, and adopt a way of life that uses the earth's finite resources more intelligently and generates less carbon emissions and undesirable waste products.   This will need government legislation, but we can't afford to wait. At the end, there was an opportunity for questions and, of course, delicious refreshments provided by Ananda, with the opportunity to meet and mingle with fellow Sopwellians!
