Autumn Cycle ride

On Saturday 13th November 2010, Peter Wares organised a gentle family cycle ride for Sopwell residents, along the Alban Way out to Smallford.

A small group of residents met at 12 noon at the entrance to the Alban Way in Leyland Avenue and set off towards Smallford. Along the way, we often stopped whenever someone wanted to share a bit of history about a feature or wanted to ask a question. In Smallford, we had a nice pint, some food and some good conversation at a local pub. A few non-cycling residents joined us at the pub. Afterwards, we returned home along the same route.

The ride was tied to the “Lost Rails” exhibition at the Museum of St Albans, which told the history and development of the District’s former railway lines, one of which being the former Hatfield to St Albans branch line.
