Autumn walk around Sopwell

Following on from the success of the Sopwell walks in the last two years, on Saturday 18th September 2010 we organised another walk around the Sopwell area.

We met at 2pm near the benches at the Nunnery open space in Cottonmill Lane.

The walk was led by Chris Pudsey (natural environment) and Councillor Eileen Harris (history).

We walked through the ruins, along the Ver, under the Alban Way bridge over the Ver, across the field, to Cottonmill Lane, and from there to the New Barnes Mill area. Then along the golf course - the original London Road - via Riverside Road, to the holy well in Belmont Hill. Finally, from Holywell Hill back to the Nunnery open space via the footpath next to the river Ver.

At the end, Ananda invited everybody to her home for refreshments.
