Larks in the Parks 2006

Larks in the Parks in Sopwell was held on a scorching hot summer day. The tall trees in the middle of the field became the chosen place for picnics and for the many different acts that entertained us.

The mayor taking part in the African Drumming workshopPerhaps the best sight was Risenga Makondo an African drummer involving both children and adults in a drumming workshop. But so too were the stalls inside the Marlborough pavilion where tea, coffee, squash and biscuits were available, Indian jewellery and food and lots of information about different environmental projects and charities which are at work in our locality.

The children loved the entertainment, they loved the face painting and the colouring and collage workshops, for adults there was a plant swap shop. So many people came and enjoyed part of the day. There was music, comedy and dancing. This is not a fund raising activity -it is a day for our local community to leave the car at home, to walk down to the park with a picnic and enjoy a day out together. However the plant stall (run by Sopwell residents Association) raised a small amount for more bulb planting in Sopwell. Larks in the Parks is run as part of the St Albans Festival and supported by St Albans Arts Sport and Leisure. They provide he main entertainment, the first aid cover, the insurance and the training of stewards.

You can look at pictures of the event in our photo section.

Next years event is on July 1st and we would like to offer even more stalls and activities for people to do.
