St Albans Parish Council campaign

Did you know that St Albans District Council will be abolished in 2028 – along with all 11 district councils in Hertfordshire – and Herts County Council. Instead there will be one, or two new ‘unitary authorities’ set up. This is part of the government’s Local Government Review – intended to reshape local government; save money and improve services.

The new authority may be far away in a place like Watford, and we are worried that St Albans, incuding Sopwell, will lose a local voice, so valued community resources, and local heritage assets will be uncared for by a far-away body.

Sopwell Residents’ Association has joined the campaign – led by St Albans Civic Society – to get a St Albans City Centre (including Sopwell) Parish Council.
